Why not try combining this flavor with some popcorn, to create Birthday Cake Popcorn?!
If you love birthday cake flavor, and you love popcorn, then you simply must try some birthday cake flavored popcorn. It is so easy to make at home, and the results will leave you smiling from ear-to-ear.
In this article, we’ll show you how to make birthday cake popcorn.
Let’s get started!
What Is ‘Birthday Cake’ Flavor?
The birthday cake flavor is one of the most popular flavors out there today.
This flavor is most easily recognized by its appearance, rather than the way it tastes. You can usually identify a birthday cake flavored snack when it is colored white with lots of rainbow-colored sprinkles inside.
The flavor itself is best described as mimicking vanilla buttercream mixed with sprinkles. This represents how a ‘birthday cake’ looks, or rather, how a Funfetti cake looks.
For those who are wondering the difference between the two, there isn’t one: Funfetti cake and birthday cake are the same, both using vanilla buttercream and rainbow Funfetti sprinkles. The only thing that separates these two is their name!
Of course, birthday cakes can be any flavor: a person may choose to have a chocolate flavored birthday cake, or a red velvet birthday cake. However, the flavor ‘birthday cake’ is, specifically, a white, vanilla sponge with rainbow sprinkles inside, covered in vanilla buttercream.
How To Make Your Own Birthday Cake Popcorn
Making your own birthday cake popcorn is incredibly simple, and doesn’t require much time or effort.
Below, we have listed each ingredient and utensil you will need, along with a step-by-step guide on how to make birthday cake popcorn.
- Popcorn kernels (2 tbsp per serving)
- White chocolate chips (2 tbsp per serving)
- Dry vanilla cake mix (1 cup)
- Rainbow sprinkles
- A brown paper bag
- A large bowl
- A saucepan/pot
- A spatula or large spoon
Make sure you have clean hands, and a clean environment, before you start cooking.
Step 1: Pop The Popcorn
To begin making birthday cake popcorn, first pop the corn.
Place the popcorn kernels into the brown paper bag, and fold the bag a couple of times to make sure that it is completely closed. Then, place the bag into the microwave.
Next, turn the microwave to high for 1 minute. If you can hear that the corn has stopped popping before the 1 minute is over, you can remove the bag.
After the 1-minute mark, remove the bag from the microwave, and open the top of the bag. If the popcorn is done, you can move onto the next step! If there are some unpopped kernels inside, place back into the microwave for another 30 seconds.
Continue doing this until all the corn has popped.
Step 2: Melt White Chocolate
Place the saucepan/pot on a low to medium heat, and slowly melt the White chocolate. Add a bit of vegetable oil if you need to thin the chocolate.
When the white chocolate is fully melted, and thinned, pull it off the heat.
Step 3: Add The Cake Mix And Milk
Now, add the cake mix in small amounts. Keep stirring thoroughly to ensure that there are no lumps in the mixture.
Keep adding until all the cake mix is mixed with the White Chocolate, and then….
Add the sprinkles!!!!!
Step 4: Combine Everything Together
Place the popcorn in the large bowl, and pour the marshmallow cake mixture over the top.
Use the spatula or spoon to stir everything together, making sure that the popcorn is completely covered. If you find that some popcorn has stuck to the bottom of the bowl, use the spatula to scrape it up.
Step 5: Let The Popcorn Cool Down
Cover the bowl with some cling film, and place in the refrigerator for an hour or two. This will cause the marshmallow cake mix to harden, fully coating the popcorn.
Once the mixture has hardened, remove from the refrigerator, and use the spatula to dislodge the pieces of popcorn. They will all, most likely, be stuck together at this point, so you may want to separate the pieces to make it easier to pick pieces out of the bowl.
Step 6: Enjoy Your Birthday Cake Popcorn!
That is it! You have successfully created your very own birthday cake flavored popcorn.
If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding different toppings such as additional sprinkles, mini M&M’s, mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, jelly beans, etc.
So, there you have it! That is how you can create your very own birthday cake popcorn.
This is such a fun, colorful snack to serve at birthday parties, family gatherings, movie nights in, and any other time when you just need something sweet and delicious.
You can use this recipe to create other flavors of popcorn by swapping out some ingredients. For example, if you’d like to make Red Velvet popcorn, swap the white cake mix for some Red Velvet cake mix, and use milk chocolate chips instead of white chocolate. Get creative with your cooking!
