Because Skittles popcorn is the next level creation when it comes to wacky and delicious popcorn snacks, and it’ll leave you craving the rainbow.

It’s unexpectedly easy as well. We’re writing down two recipes, and each of them is easier than the other. It’s the kind of delicious snack you can serve at a big party as a large bowl of rainbow-colored popcorn. It’s also an amazing Halloween recipe! We haven’t met a kid who doesn’t like colorful and sweet snacks, have you? If you have kids yourself and just moved to a family-friendly neighborhood, this recipe is the perfect ice-breaker! If you’re intrigued, let’s get poppin’!

Popping the Popcorn

As usual, we need to pop the popcorn first. You can use any kind of kernel and method you’re comfortable with. You can even use the good ol’ microwave popcorn for an extra buttery flavor, but we’ll be sticking to the stovetop method for today. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need

Instructions

  • Put the pot over medium heat
  • Add the oil and let it heat up for a couple of minutes
  • Toss in a few kernels and wait for them to start popping
  • When they start popping, toss in the rest of the kernels, give them a quick stir, and cover the lid
  • When the popping sound starts to subside, remove the pot from the heat, dump the popcorn to a bowl, and add a small pinch of salt – the idea is not to make a salty popcorn but to enhance the Skittles flavors

Making the Skittles Popcorn Method #1

If you want to serve your guests a sweet rainbow-colored popcorn with bright and well-defined colors, this is the method you want to go for! Even though it might seem a bit more involved compared to Method #2, it’s actually not, and it yields a better result in terms of colorfulness. Either way, this is a great method if you want to make Skittles popcorn for your guests for a movie night! Let’s start building the rainbow, shell we?

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Dump the popped popcorn to a parchment lined baking sheet and set aside
  • Blend the Skittles into a powder the size of sugar granules, one color at a time and pour them into a bowl
  • Melt the white chocolate either in the microwave with 10 second bursts, or using a double boiler
  • Pour the melted white chocolate on the popped popcorn and stir well
  • Before the white chocolate solidifies, sprinkle ¼ cup of the Skittles powder over the white chocolate-coated popcorn and give it a thorough stir until everything is combined and colorful – you can use as much or as little as Skittles powder as you like
  • Let the Skittles popcorn cool to room temperature
  • Break them up and serve – you can additionally sprinkle over a tiny pinch of Skittles powder when you’re serving for some extra pizazz
  • Enjoy!

You can also store them in an airtight container for a couple of days

Making the Skittles Popcorn Method #2

Although Method #2 is much simpler than Method #1, the trade-off is that the colors may blend together when melted because they’re melted all together instead of being prepared separately. So, their colors may not be as sharp and definite. But still, it’ll look wonderful and taste equally amazing. You can’t beat sweet and sour colorful popcorn, no matter what. Your friends or family will gladly munch on it and be satisfied at the end of the night, even more so if your team wins the game or your favorite character defeats the villain! If you agree and want to give this method a try, here’s how:

Ingredients

  • 8 cups popped popcorn
  • 1 cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup Skittles
  • Food coloring – totally optional but you can use them if you want the colors to pop

Instructions

  • Dump the popped popcorn to a parchment lined baking sheet and set aside
  • Melt the butter and brown sugar medium heat while constantly stirring – you can also add a small pinch of salt if you want to go the sweet and savory route
  • When the butter-sugar mixture is melted, add the Skittles and continue stirring until everything melts – you can also crush the stubborn Skittles that won’t melt with your spoon or spatula
  • After everything melts, pour the hot mixture over the popped popcorn and thoroughly stir until each popcorn is coated – be careful at this step because melted sugar is very dangerous!
  • Flatten the Skittles popcorn mixture to a thin layer to allow it to cool faster
  • After cooled to room temperature, which should take around 15-20 minutes, break apart the solidified popcorn and serve – you can also store it in an airtight container for about a week
  • Enjoy!

There you go! A colorful, sweet and sour, delicious, and eye-catching snack for your next party or movie night! It’s also an amazing and thoughtful, homemade food gift during the holidays, especially Halloween, or for your bestie’s birthday. It’s an addictively perfect snack for almost every occasion!
